Mozambique: Millennium Challenge Account launches development projects

Maputo, Mozambique, 12 Aug -The Millennium Challenge Account Mozambique will launch tenders before December for a range of development projects, budgeted at US$ 95 million in the north and center of the country, an official said Monday in Maputo.

Paulo Fumane, director general of Millennium Challenge Account Mozambique, said these projects would cover areas such as land and forest mapping, treatment of palm tree yellowing disease, improving water supply networks and rehabilitating access roads.

Fumane said work on the projects will get underway this month with technical and financial viability studies, adding all current preparations should be finalized by December.

Millennium Challenge Account Mozambique will launch a US$ 78 million tender this month for consultancy services to carry out the viability studies of the technical, economic and financial aspects of the projects.

Next Wednesday, Millennium Challenge Account Mozambique is promoting a Maputo conference to publicize the projects to national business leaders.

Millennium Challenge Account Mozambique was created in 2007 under an accord with the US government to implement projects valued at US$ 500 million over five years. (macauhub)
