Luena, Angola, 26 Aug – the bridge over the river Zambezi, in the municipality of Alto-Zambeze, Moxico province, was concluded Wednesday, with the launch of its metallic structure 140 metres in length and 4 metres wide, according to Angolan news agency Angop.
Reconstruction of the bridge, with a capacity to hold 70 tonnes, was shared by the Angolan Roads Institute (INEA) and by Portuguese construction company, Conduril – Construtora Duriense.
The Portuguese company began replacing the bridge’s pillars in May 2007, whilst setting the metallic structure (by INEA), took just eight days.
The bridge will improve traffic flow between Cazombo-Luau-Luena and Cazombo-Zambia.
The official re-inauguration of the bridge is scheduled for later this month.
The border municipality of Alto-Zambeze, the capital of which is Cazombo, is some 519 kilometres from the city of Luena. (macauhub)
