Portugal: Portugal’s Portucel plans investments in Mozambique

Setubal, Portugal, 29 Aug – Portuguese pulp and paper company Portucel said Thursday in Setubal that it had signed agreements of intention with the governments of Uruguay and Mozambique to build factories in the two countries.

In Mozambique Portucel reached an agreement to “carry out a forestry development investment project for production of pulp and paper.”

This factory will have a production capacity fo no less than 1 million tonnes per year.

In Uruguay, the agreement is to “carry out an investment project covering an integrated forestry development base, pulp production, and at a later stage paper production.”

The future factory is expected to produce 1.3 million tonnes of pulp per year.

In total, the two factories will have a production capacity of 2.3 million tonnes per year.

In 2007, Portucel’s total pulp production was 1.32 million tonnes, whilst paper production was of just over 1 million tonnes. (macauhub)
