Portugal: Portugal’s GDP sees growth of 0.7 pct in 2nd quarter

9 September 2008

Lisbon, Portugal, 9 Sept – The Portuguese economy grew 0.7 percent in the second quarter of 2008, against the same period of 2007, after growing 0.9 percent in the previous quarter, The country’s National Statistics Institute said Monday in Lisbon.

The statistics institute said that the slowdown was due to lower domestic demand, which contributed 1.6 percentage points to gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter of 2008 (2.3 percentage points in the previous quarter), particularly due to private consumption behaviour.

The statistics institute said that as compared with the first quarter of 2008, GDP in the second quarter posted growth of 0.3 percent. (macauhub)
