Sumbe, Angola, 30 Sept – Twenty two traditional fishing vessels were granted licenses in the first half of the year, in Angola’s Kwanza Sul province by fishing institute, Instituto de Pesca Artesanal (IPA), Angolan news agency Angop reported.
The agency cited the IPA director for Kwanza Sul, Paulo Domingos dos Santos, as saying that the licensed vessels could fish without constraint.
“We will be responsible for inspecting whether or not their occupants are equipped for fishing,” he noted.
The IPA updates the list of vessels and carries out technical surveys along the coast, with the aim of ensuring greater navigational safety.
Figures from the IPA showed that in Kwanza Suk there are a total of 226 traditional fishing vessels and 1,383 fishermen. (macauhub)
