Angola: Sonangol announces new oil strike in deep waters off Angola

Luanda, Angola, 16 Oct – Angolan state oil company Sonangol and British Petroleum (Angola) Limited said Wednesday they had discovered oil in the Dione-1 well in block 31, in the deep waters of offshore Angola.

This is BP’s 16th oil discovery in block 31, which is located approximately 9 kilometres to the southeast of the Juno oil field.

The Dione-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 1272 metres below sea level, some 390 kilometres to the northeast of Luanda.

The well was tested to a production rate of over 5,000 barrels per day.

Sonangol EP is the concession-holder of Block 31 and has a 20 percent stake, whilst BP Exploration (Angola) Limited, as operator, has a 26.67 percent stake.

Its partners in the block – ESSO Exploration and Production Angola (Block 31) Limited has a 20 percent stake and Statoil Angola AS, a subsidiary of StatoilHydro ASA, has a 13.33 percent stake.

Marathon International Petroleum Angolan Block 31 Limited has a share of some 10 percent and TEPA Limited has 5 percent.

Italy’s ENI and Sonangol Monday announced another oil discovery in the deep waters of Block 15/06 in Angola’s offshore. (macauhub)
