Cape Verde: Government launches public tender for refurbishment of Fogo Island ring road

Sao Filipe, Cape Verde, 16 Oct – The government of Cape Verde has launched an international tender to select a company to carry out refurbishment work on the Fogo Island ring road stretching over some 67 kilometres, according to a report from Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress.

The work is expected to take begin in the first half of 2009 and take 30 months.

The refurbishment project for the ring r ad, drawn up by a team from Kuwait’s TAEP company, is split into two sections, the first linking São Filipe to Mosteiros covering 39.6 kilometres, and the second connecting São Filipe and Santa Catarina, which is 27.2 kilometres long.

Proposals must be handed in by 2 December.

Funding for the project, totalling 4 billion Cape Verdean escudos, will be provided by the fund of the Organisation for Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Kuwait Fund, the Bank for Economic Development of Africa (BADEA), and by the Cape Verdean government.

The road will, over most of its length, have a seven-metre wide asphalt surface. (macauhub)
