Macau: Inflation totals 8.43 percent in September

Macau, China, 22 Oct – The inflation rate in Macau at the end of September was 8.43 percent, in a month in which prices saw a rise of 0.42 percent against the previous month, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said Tuesday in Macau.

The Bureau said that against September of 2007, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 9.07 percent, with significant rises in the categories of food and non-alcoholic drinks (16.44 percent), Health (14.27 percent) and Clothing and Footwear (9.11 percent).

From January to September, the CPI rose 9 percent against the same period of 2007 and in the third quarter of 2008 the rise was also 9 percent against the same quarter of the previous year.

In September, the Statistics and Census Bureau noted price rises in the categories of Education (2.91 percent), Products and miscellaneous services (2.29 percent) and Housing and Fuel (0.99 percent). (macauhub)
