31 October 2008

Praia, Cape Verde, 31 Oct – Cape Verde is due to present a document on what it wishes to gain from its Special Partnership with the European Union on 12 November in Brussels, the Cape Verdean Foreign Affairs minister, José Brito said in Praia Thursday.

The minister added that the document defined a framework for the partnership and was presented to the ambassadors of European Union countries in Praia and the European Union representative, Josep Coll.

Brito added that Cape Verde was ready to launch that partnership in one of the areas in which the European Union will provide support, which is stability and security.

On 19 November, 2007 the 27 member-states of the European Union reached an agreement on a future special partnership with Cape Verde, which aimed to strengthen and boost ties between Cape Verde and the EU.

The meetings between the government of Cape Verde and representatives of the European Union would continue, in order to identify programmes and methods of funding the partnership, Brito said. (macauhub)
