Praia, Cape Verde, 11 Nov – Over 30,000 low energy light bulbs have been distributed on the islands of Santiago and Sao Vicente, in Cape Verde as part of a national energy-saving campaign, which has been running since 9 October.

According to the campaign’s coordinator, Nilton Pina, around 13,000 light bulbs have yet to be distributed in the city of Praia. On Sao Vicente Island, a further 6,000 bulbs will be handed out by the beginning of next week.

The first phase of the campaign to raise awareness about saving energy on the island of Santiago will continue until the second week of December.

The campaign will cover the remaining islands when the second delivery of 250,000 low energy light bulbs arrives on the island.

The first order of 50,000 bulbs, benefited only the islands of Santiago, with 35,000 bulbs, and Sao Vicente with 15,000 bulbs.

The campaign included two parts, the first of which had mobile teams raising awareness and providing information and later, a fixed team of workers distributed the light bulbs.

Pina also said that the traditional light bulbs collected during the campaign will be sent for recycling outside the country. (macauhub)
