Luanda, Angola, 3 Dec – Some 14 ceramics factories producing bricks, roof tiles, mosaics, decorative tiles and sanitary ware will be constructed in Angola in 2009, Artur da Silva Mota, director general of Uniceramica, has told the Angop news agency.
Silva Mota said construction of these units will provide jobs for thousands of young people and boost Uniceramica’s monthly brick output from the current 5.61 million to 12.32 million units.
Uniceramica currently operates 14 ceramics plants. Twelve of these are in operation and another two in the process of starting up.
The firm has two plants in Luanda, three in Catete, in Bengo, one each in Porto Amboim and Wako Kungo in Kwanza Sul, two in Benguela, three in Lubango and one in Caala, in Huambo, where pilot operation begins this month. Another factory is scheduled to open in April 2009 in Kuito, Bie.
Angola’s ceramics industry was one of the country’s most productive before independence, with about 276 small, medium and large plants in operation. (macauhub)
