Houston, Texas, 9 Dec – US company Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR) said Friday in Houston it had been hired by Sonangol to build support facilities for the future Lobito Refinery, a project worth an estimated US$6.4 billion.

“This award demonstrates Sonangol’s recognition of KBR’s strong commitment to helping our client achieve their objective of reducing Angola’s reliance on imported refined products,” said KBR president, John Quinn, in a statement published on the company’s website.

Within the scope of the contract, the value of which was not provided, the US company will be responsible for building infrastructures to support the facility, including access roads and a port, ” which will be used to import and export both raw and finished hydrocarbon products.”

According to the company work is due to begin immediately.

KBR was also awarded the refinery’s Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract, which is due to be operational within four years. (macauhub)
