Jamba, Angola, 15 Dec – The project for re-opening the iron facility at the mines of Jamba municipality in Angola’s Huíla province, could be concluded in the short term the municipal administrator of Miguel Cassela locality said Saturday.
Iron mines at Jamba have not been in operation since 1987.
The Jamba municipal administrator told Angolan news agency Angop that, “the studies of the project are in their final phase and Empresa Nacional de Ferros (Ferrangol E. P.) is due to present the results of the study soon as well as a feasibility project, to be approved by the central authorities in order for operations to begin.”
Cassela noted that prospects for iron ore mining were great, mainly at the mines of Kassinga, Tchamutete and the municipal capital, as they have high quality ore and preliminary studies pointed to potential exploration of 500 years, depending on the technology used at the mine.
The municipality of Jamba, located 317 kilometres East of Lubango, has an area of 12,700 square kilometres and 90,000 inhabitants. (macauhub)
