Kuvango, Angola, 15 Dec – The section of road between the municipalities of Matala and Kuvango, in Huíla province, in the direction of Menongue, in Angola’s Kuando Kubango province, covering 169 kilometres is due to be asphalted as of June next year, Angolan news agency Angop reported Friday.
According to Gonçalo Domingos, a technician from Aerovia, which is carrying out the work, the road is part of national road 280, which has been undergoing refurbishment for the last six months.
The work is due to take 30 months and concluded in December 2009.
The recovery of the road, costing an estimated US$125 million, is aprt of na important stretch of road linking Huíla province to those of Kuando Kubango and Bié.
Originally the contract for the work as far as Menongue (319 km) had been awarded to Aerovia, however, in November 2007, Angola’s roads institute, Instituto Nacional de Estradas de Angola (INEA), changed it, awarding teh first 169 kilometres (Matala/Rio Cutato) to Aerovia and the remaining 150 kilometres of Rio Cutato/Menongue to Brazil’s Andrade Gutierrez.(macauhub)
