Cape Verde: China plans to boost cooperation with Cape Verde

Praia, Cape Verde, 29 Dec – The People’s Republic of China is interested in further boosting its cooperation with Cape Verde, the Chinese ambassador to Cape Verde, Wu Yuanshan said during a ceremony to sign three deals totalling investment of US$23 million (157 million yuan), Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress reported.

At the ceremony, attended by Finance Minister Cristina Duarte, the Chinese government donated 50 million yuan, granted a loan of 87.01 million yuan with preferential interest rates and a third interest-free loan of 20 million yuan.

The agreements that were signed clover the sports sector, with funding for a national stadium, the health sector with the funding of a new Maternity Unit and Emergency Room, and the port and customs sector with a view to acquiring three scanners to be installed at the ports of Praia (Santiago Island), Porto Grande (Sao Vicente), and Palmeira (Sal) in order to more efficiently inspect goods and contribute to Cape Verde’s security.

Duarte also said that other projects were underway with the support of China, specifically related to “electronic governance.” (macauhub)
