Angola: Government to distribute 400 buses to provinces in centre, south and east Angola

Benguela, Angola, 29 Dec – Six Angolan provinces located in the Lobito corridor in 2009 are due to receive over 400 buses aimed at improving and increasing provincial public transport, said José António Valongo, the provincial director for Transport of Benguela, accordingt o a report in newspaper Jornal de Angola.

The paper said that the 403 buses were already at the port of Lobito and that soon they would be distributed to the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bié, Moxico, Lunda Norte, and Lunda Sul, according to a plan drawn up by the Angolan Transport Ministry.

“These buses are part of a general plan to acquire 4,000 units fir the national network that are being acquired by the Transport Ministry and distributed to the provinces for delivery to existing operators, in order to boost their fleets and provide a better service to the population,” said Valongo.

The provincial director of Transport in Benguela said that the measure was in line with the plan of activities for 2008 which included, “promoting the expansion of collective public passenger transport in urban and inter-municipal areas.” (macauhub)
