6 January 2009

Cabinda, Angola, 6 Jan – The pontoon-quay in Angola’s Cabinda province has received its first cargo ship over 132 meters in length and 15 meters beam, state news agency Angop has cited port management as saying.

The ship had a 7.20 meter draught and capacity for 20ft and 40 ft containers holding up to 8.5 tons of freight. The vessel carried 18 buses from Brazil to Cabinda and port authorities said docking and unloading operations proceeded without hitches.

Cabinda’s pontoon-quay was originally built in 1956 and has a metal structure that has been modernized on several occasions. In the last 10 years the dock has been upgraded to a small port for container traffic. (macauhub)
