Angola: Angolan industrial sector sees growth valued at US$350 million

7 January 2009

Luanda, Angola, 7 Jan – The industrial sector in Angola in 2008 posted growth estimated to be worth US$350 million, which is greater than the US$200 million in 2007, as a result of state and private sector investment, Angola’s Industry Minister said Tuesday in Luanda.

Joaquim David said that Angolan industry had posted greater growth last year than in recent years, despite receiving less investment from the state than from the private sector, which invested just over US$300 million.

The minister also noted that construction and optimisation of the production process at two ceramics factories was currently underway, and a third was at the stage of engineering and securing funding.

The minister said that there were still aspects for which a solution needed to be found, as it was necessary to assimilated new technologies, with a view to doubling production of bricks, roof tiles, bathroom equipment and piping. (macauhub)
