Maputo, Mozambique, 7 Jan – The Millenium Challenge Account (MCA) Moçambique between June and November 2008 granted 11 tenders, the institution’s executive director, Paulo Fumane told Macauhub.
The tenders were essentially focused on providing services and both Mozambican and European companies put forward proposals.
The tenders included the supply of coconut palm seedlings, vehicles, IT equipment, software, acquiring a building for the MCA’s offices in Nampula and teaching materials.
A tender that was of particular note was granted ot TTI Production, a French company which is charged with dealing with coconut palm yellowing disease.
In total MCA Moçambique is due to launch tenders worth around US$88 million.
Amongst the various tenders that have already been launched is the acquisition of a building to house the headquarters of MCA Moçambique, which will be transferred from the capital Maputo to the northern city of Nampula, the executive director said.
Transferring the MCA’s headquarters from Maputo, according to Fumane, is worthwhile because the project’s programmes estimated to total over US$500 million are all being carried out in provinces in northern Mozambique, namely Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambézia and Niassa. (macauhub)
