China: Huawei’s sales rise by 46 pct in 2008

Beijing, China, 8 Jan – Global contracts signed by Huawei Technologies, China’s biggest network equipment company, rose 46 percent in 2008, to US$23.3 billion, China Business News reported Wednesday.

The paper cited an e-mail from group president, Sun Yafang, to staff as saying that Sales in 2009 were likely to exceed US$30 billion.

Over three quarters of Huawei’s sales are generated outside China, in countries were it and smaller rival ZTE are seeing rapid growth, gaining market share from global giants such as Nokia and Qualcomm with their aggressive pricing strategies.

in Brazil, for example, Huawei’s turnover has risen three-fold since 2006, to 1 billion reais, according to details provided to the press in December.
