The same figures, cited by newspaper Correio da Manhã, estimated that the number of people that depend exclusively on the economic sector totals around 7.6 million.

During a seminar on the informal sector and young workers promoted by union association Organização dos Trabalhadores de Moçambique, Farida Mamade Bavabate, of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that the main problems faced by the sector were a low level of savings and investment and a lack of management capacity due to a high level of illiteracy.
