Tiruchirapalli, India, 12 Jan – India’s Southern Railway plans to sell build 20 diesel locomotives for Mozambique to be delivered over a two-year period, a company official said in Tiruchirapalli Saturday.
Speaking to journalists, V. Carmelus, chief engineer of Southern Railway said that Mozambique has bought locomotives with 2,300 and 2,400 horsepower, and that the only specific change was changing the gauge to that of the Mozambican railroads.
Carmelus also said that India’s Railways, via RITES (Rail India Technical and Economical Services) would also provide maintenance for 1,200 horsepower engines in Mozambique.
The Southern Railways Chief Engineer also said that RITES was negotiating with Brazilian state railway company to supply six locomotives, prepared based on the locomotives available on India’s railways. (macauhub)
