Maputo, Mozambique, 23 Jan – Some of Mozambique’s biggest companies are selling their shares and securities on the Maputo stock exchange (BVM), the Notícias newspaper has cited bourse chairman João Pedro Matsinhe as saying.
Among these key national enterprises are Cervejas de Moçambique, Millennium BIM, Telecomunicações de Moçambique, Moçambique Celular (Mcel) and Empresa Moçambicana de Seguros (Emose), said Matsinhe.
The BVM chief said when the Maputo stock exchange began operation in 1999 it only traded a single State Treasury Bond issue totaling US$ 4 million.
“Today, with 10 years passed, we have 16 listed issues representing a market capitalization of US$ 400 million. It’s an expansion of nearly 990 percent”, noted Matsinhe.
BVM is publicizing its activities in a stock exchange journal that itemizes official stock listings and gives other relevant information, he said. (macauhub)
