Angola: City of Cuito to have new water supply system

5 February 2009

Cuito, Angola, 5 Feb – Construction of a new plant to tap, treat and distribute drinking water in the city of Cuito in Angola’s Bié province, represents an investment of US$20 million, the head of the national water supply department said.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, António Quaresma said that, as well as construction of the drinking water supply system, the sector was also working on building 55 water fountains on the outskirts of Cuito, in order to supply water to the population.

He noted that the measure was part of the sector programme, which consists of supply drinking water to the population in suburban areas before 2012, in order to prevent diseases caused by consuming water that has not been treated.

Quaresma said that work was going ahead at a good rate and was due to be concluded by next June. (macauhub)
