Cape Verde: Government wants Taag to operate in West Africa from Sal

Praia, Cape Verde, 10 Feb – Cape Verde wants to cooperate with Angola in the air transport sector, making the airport on Sal Island a platform for Angolan airline Taag to expand into West Africa, said minister Manuel Inocêncio Sousa Monday in Praia.

The minister for Infrastructures, Transport and Telecommunications told Portuguese news agency Lusa that “it could be in Taag’s interest, which already covers central and southern Africa, to reach West Africa via Sal.”

The minister was in Angola last week, as special envoy for the prime minister, to discuss with Angolan authorities new ways for the two countries to work together, in the air transport and finance sectors.

In the finance sector, he added that Cape Verde wants “to continue the route started by the African Development Bank,” the Angolan bank which recently set up in Praia.

“There are other Angolan financial institutions interested in the Cape Verdean market, and we would like to see a three-fold collaboration between Angola, Cape Verde and the Angolan banks,” said Inocêncio Sousa. (macauhub)
