Angola: Economy expected to grow “over 3 percent” in 2009

13 February 2009

Luanda, Angola, 13 Feb – Angola’s Economy Minister, Manuel Nunes Júnior, admitted Friday in Luanda that growth of the country’s economy would slow in 2009, adding however that growth would be “over 3 percent.”

Despite the General State Budget, approved in November, projecting growth of 11.8 percent in 2009, “Angola will continue its trajectory of economic growth begun in 2002,” the minister said in a conference organised by the new Angolan financial newspaper, Expansão, together with Portugal’s Diário Económico, with which it has a strategic partnership.

Júnior also noted that a new strategy for the sale of diamonds would be launched, with the State’s intervention, “in order to prevent the collapse of some companies in this sector.” (macauhub)
