16 February 2009

Malanje, Angola, 16 Feb – Reconstruction work on the railways and construction of new railway stations in Angola’s Malanje province, are in their final stages, the provincial director for Transport, Telecommunications and Information Technologies said Friday.

Bessa Gaspar told Angolan news agency Angop that the work handed over to a Chinese company, had already made it possible to finish 112 kilometres of railway and build stations, drainage ditches and bridges.

“Soon the work will be concluded despite there being some omissions in terms of warehouses for loading and unloading goods, car parks and fencing off of the areas,” he said.

Gaspar also said that the completed work was due to be delivered in March, and that currently finishing work on fuel tanks, workshops and other buildings was being carried out on Malanje station.

After the railway starts circulating, the transport of goods and passengers will be carried out by two trains, that will carry an average of over 1,000 travellers per day. (macauhub)
