Maputo, Mozambique, 17 Feb – British mobile phone operator, Vodafone could enter the Mozambican market this year by acquiring a large stake in Vodacom Mozambique, according to the newspaper O País.
The newspaper quotes “leaked” information to state that negotiations are in progress between Vodafone and Vodacom Mozambique for the British company to acquire a non-disclosed percentage of shares in the Mozambican company.
Vodacom Mozambique currently has 40 percent of the domestic mobile phone market, providing services to over 1.5 million customers.
The operator is majority-held by South African Vodacom which controls 85 percent of the company’s capital, the remaining shares being held by Intelec, Emotel and the Whatana group. (macauhub)
