Maputo, Mozambique, 26 Feb – A new government project, known as “Marca Moçambique” (Brand Mozambique) and aiming to promote the tourist potential of Mozambique inside the country and abroad, is due to be launched in Maputo, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.
The launch of the project will be attended by around 650 people, include representatives of tour operators and African officials from the tourism sector, with a view to showing the world that Mozambique is a safe place to invest.
The national director for Tourism Promotion at the Tourism Ministry, Jeremias Manussa, also said that the launch of “Marca Moçambique” would be followed by the African Tourism Investment Summit in Maputo.
The Tourism Ministry plans to promote “Marca Moçambique” in Portuguese and English in several countries, including Portugal, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany and some countries in Asia, in a campaign that is expected to last six months.
In terms of the African conference, Manussa said that it was an event organised by the Africa Investor Forum and aimed to find a common platform for tourism development.
He also said that the event would end with the 2008 Tourism Investment Prize Gala, an initiative that aims to recognise and encourage the best operators promoting African tourism.
The gala will have 15 different categories, including Best Tourist Operator, Best Investor, Best Tourism Minister, amongst several others.
The occasion will also serve to launch a tourist and geographical map of the north of Mozambique, a product developed by National Geographic, an organisation that aims to promote sustainable tourist destinations across the world.
The tourism ministers of Kenya, Sao Tome and Principe, Swaziland, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and representatives of the World Tourism Organisation are already in Maputo to take part in the conference. (macauhub)
