Mozambique: Small-scale mining brings together specialists in Chimoio

Maputo, Mozambique, 2 March – Around 500 people are due to take part in the annual conference on Communities and Small Scale Mining (CASM) this year to be held in the Mozambican city of Chimoio, capital of Manica province, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

This event may be an opportunity to improve mining practices across the country, and particularly, to share knowledge with other specialists about the reality of small-scale mining in Mozambique, with a view to getting greater benefits from this activity.

CASM is na international organisation with its headquarters in London and includes the Americas, Asia and Africa. Its mission is to reduce poverty by improve the social and economic climate of small-scale mining operators in developing countries.

A delegation from CASM Global and CASM Africa visited Mozambique a few days ago in order to check preparations made by the organisers in Chimoio to host the event, scheduled for next September.

CASM carries out conferences on an annual basis and in 2008 the event took place in Brazil. (macauhub)
