Angola: Angolan company invests in refurbishment of hotel in Huambo

Huambo, Angola, 16 March – Angolan company Rodomerk is investing US$40 million in the refurbishment, modernisation and equipping of the Lago do Parque hotel in the downtown area of the city of Huambo, the company’s chairman, Ramiro Manuel Bandeira said.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, after the official presentation of the project to members of the provincial government, Barreira said that the work would begin at the beginning of May and would take between 18 and 24 months.

The Lago do Parque hotel, which was built over 30 years ago but never opened, will cover, according to Barreira, an area of 37,500 square metres.

He added that the hotel would have a four-star rating and would create 210 new jobs.

Huambo province currently has three four-star hotels in operation, as well as 16 inns, two bed and breakfast’s and an aparthotel.

Construction work is underway for two new hotels, with four and five floors, refurbishment of another two, with ten and five floors, all of which are located in the city of Huambo, which has two more hotels awaiting refurbishment and an aparthotel, with around 30 short let apartments, which is close to conclusion.

Until 1992 Huambo province had the most hotel facilities in the country after Luanda, the capital of Angola. (macauhub)
