Mozambique: Vale launches Moatize coal project

19 March 2009

Maputo, Mozambique, 19 March – The laying of the first stone of Brazilian mining company Vale Moçambique’s coal project at Moatize is scheduled for the 27 March, in Mozambique’s Tete province, according to a report in Mozambican newspaper, Notícias.

The event is the culmination of a process that began with the signing of a prospecting and surveying agreement in 2004 between the Mining Ministry and Companhia Vale Moçambique, which was later followed by signing a mining contract, as well as issuing a mining concession for the coal at Moatize, in November 2006.

The ceremony for laying the first stone will be attended by Mozambican president, Armando Guebuza, and other government members, top officials from vale and diplomatic representatives. (macauhub)
