Macau, China, 30 March – Macau’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) posted real growth of 13.2 percent in 2008, with per capita GDP reaching 313,091 patacas (around US$39,036), the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in Macau Friday.
According to GDP estimates for the 4th quarter of 2008, GDP growth fell by 7.6 percent due to falls in gaming revenues, in investment and in export of goods, and GDP from the first and second quarters was reviewed from 32.3 and 22.2 percent to 32.5 and 22.4 percent, respectively.
In the third quarter GDP fell from 11.3 percent to 20.4 percent.
In 2008, Macau’s economic growth was driven by an increase in gross gaming and gambling revenues, which rose 31 percent year on year, visitors which increased 2.2 percent to 22.9 million, and private spending, which rose 7.5 percent due to a rise in the employed population and salaries. (macauhub)
