Mozambique: Illovo partners Maragra community to plant sugar cane

Durban, South Africa, 13 April – South African company Illovo Sugar Ltd. Has set up a partnership with the local community of Maragra, Mozambique to plan sugar cane across 4,000 hectares of land some 40 kilometres from its refinery, the company said in a statement.

The partnership will produce some 400,000 tonnes of sugar cane per year and is linked to the project to double the production capacity of the company’s Maragra refinery to 150,000 tonnes.

Illovo Sugar also acquired an option to buy a 90 percent stake in a sugar cane plantation in Búzi, close to the city of Beira, which could lead to construction of a refinery in the area, the company also said. (macauhub)
