Praia, Cape Verde, 14 April – The Cape Verdean government and the United Nations Organisation (UN) Wednesday on the Cape Verdean island of Sao Nicolau signed a contract to install a desalination unit valued at 133 million Cape Verdean Escudos, according to weekly newspaper A Semana.

The paper added that Petra Lantz, the coordinator of the United Nations System in Cape Verde, and the Secretary of State for the Economy, Humberto Brito, Monday began a three-day visit to the island of Sao Nicolau to observe projects that are underway in the municipal areas of Ribeira Brava and Tarrafal.

The desalination plant that is being installed, a project funded by the UN, will make it possible to supply drinking water across the island. (macauhub)
