Angola: Angola Telecom installs 1,500 new phone booths

21 April 2009

Huambo, Angola, 21 April – Angola Telecom this year plans to install, across the country’s 18 provinces, 1,500 new phone booths, as part of its policy to improve services and expand the telecommunications network, the company’s chief executive said Friday in Huambo.

João Avelino Manuel told Angolan news agency Angop that the new public phone booths had already arrived at the port of Luanda, from where they would later be sent for installation, replacing older versions, many of which have not been working for years.

According to Manuel, the new public phone booths will be installed in locations to be decided by provincial governments.

Without giving an exact figure for the number of phone booths the company currently has in operation, Manuel noted that some were in a poor state of repair, mainly due to damage caused by the users themselves. (macauhub)
