Maputo, Mozambique, 22 May – Mozambique’s Tourism Fair (BTM), the only fair four tour operators in Mozambique, starts on 28 May with the participation of fewer exhibitors than in 2008, due to the financial crisis, the sales director of the promoting company said in Maputo Thursday.
Juvenal Mabote, the sales director of Sociedade Gestora de Exposições e Feiras de Moçambique (Sogex), teh promoter of BTM, which this year sees its 8th edition, said that the event would have 30 direct national exhibitors and three direct foreign exhibitors this year, as well as 11 delegations from Mozambican provinces, which are considered to be indirect participants.
The 7th edition of BTM, held in 2008, had a total of 49 direct national exhibitors and three foreign exhibitors and was visited by over 10,000 people.
“This year we will have fewer exhibitors than last year. There has been a small contraction due to economic difficulties that tourism sector operators are going through due to the world economic and financial crisis,” said the Sogex sales director.
According to Mabote, in times of crisis, tourism sector companies are forced to lower their costs due to the priorities imposed by the economic climate, in order to maintain efficiency and make their businesses feasible.
As well as exhibiting their products and services, the businesspeople at the 8th edition of BTM will make use of the three days of the event to discuss together ways of remaining competitive at a difficult time for businesses. (macauhub)
