Luanda, Angola, 29 May – At least ten new hotels, of the 32 under construction in the city of Luanda, will be ready by next December, thus boosting the accommodation capacity in time for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held between 10 and 31 January, 2010 in the country.
The spokesperson for the Angolan Ministry for Hotels and Tourism, Rosa Cruz gave the assurance to Angolan news agency Angop Wednesday, adding that amongst the new hotels there would be a three-star Skyna hotel and a five-star Sana hotel, both located in Ingombota municipality.
According to Rosa Cruz, the ten units will also include a hotel belonging to oil group Sonangol, which is under construction in the Talatona area, and another owned by Diamond company Endiama, located near the Luanda coastal road.
Without giving details about the remaining six hotels, the spokesperson said that by December there could be more hotels concluded, depending on the speed of construction of the remaining units.
Cruz said that the hotels, pensions, inns and similar facilities that were not ready by December would be completed in 2010.
Figures from the Hotels and Tourism Ministry show that in Luanda there are 27 hotels, 63 inns and various miscellaneous units, such as apartment hotels, tourist villages, motels and hostelries.
Units such as Trópico, Continental, Alvalade, Presidente Meridien, Continental, Mulemba, Fórum, Park, Relaxe, Tivoli, Mundial, Costa do Sol, Alameda and Invicta are some of the accommodation available in the country’s capital to accommodate tourists during CAN/2010, whose games will take place in the cities of Luanda, Cabinda, Huíla and Benguela.
