Lubango, Angola, 5 June – the Angolan government plans soon to set up a retail chain for sale of construction materials, in order to support the national programme for construction of housing, the minister got Urbanism and Housing, José Ferreira said in Lubango Thursday.
At a meeting during a visit to Huíla province, the minister said that the creation of what he called Presild (Logistics and Distribution System for products that are Essential to the Population) for construction materials would make it possible for real estate promoters, mainly from the government’s housing programme, to have access to the materials at a low cost.
“The Government does not want to monopolise the purchase of these materials abroad, but the Presild for construction materials will set a top price and the private sector will have to base it prices on those set by the State’s retail chain,” he noted, cited by Angolan news agency Angop.
He also said that, as part of support for assisted self-building, Presild would sell house construction kits, via a recently created government programme called “Nossa Casa” (Our House).
The minister said that the Government had decided to liberalise the acquisition of cement from abroad, allowing promoters and real estate companies to import it, as previously only five companies were authorised to do so. (macauhub)
