Luanda, Angola, 10 June – Mining company Sociedade Mineira de Catoca has postponed several social projects due to the world financial crisis, Rádio Ecclesia reported in Luanda citing the company’s interim Human Resources director, João Reis.
The projects that have suffered this setback include building a residential neighbourhood for workers, a polytechnic school, a football field, a medical post and a community farm, in Lunda Sul province, the radio station said.
Speaking Saturday in Saurimo at a ceremony to open a children’s centre, João Reis said that the company was having difficulties in selling diamonds, which affected the implementation at the fourth largest mine in the world.
“We are working to try to face all the difficulties with realism,” Reis noted when speaking to radio station Rádio Ecclésia.
According to the official the company continues to manage its existing projects and containing expenditure is the company’s current strategy. (macauhub)
