Malanje, Angola, 12 June – The government of Angola’s Malanje province and Israeli group LR, the company charged with carrying out the “Aldeia Nova” (New Village) project Wednesday in the city fo Malanje signed a memorandum to implement the programme in the province.
Work on the poject, which is due to cost an estimated US$50, will end in 2010.
The “Aldeia Nova” project, 15 kilometres south of Malanje, covers an area of 10,000 hectares, where 250 homes will be built along with, medical posts, school and other facilities.
In the memorandum signed by the governor of Malnje province, Boaventura Cardoso, and by the director general of the “Aldeia Nova” project José Cerqueira, it was agreed that the project would be set aside for cassava productio, 1,000 square metres of irrigated land per family, and aviary with 700 chickens and a cassava flour mill.
Based on the protocol signed by the government the project will create an area to produce pre-fabricated houses, which according o the governor will help to minimise the difficulties related to housing.
The “Aldeia Nova” project, which the government plans to extend across the country aims to modernise agriculture, speed up industrial processing in agricultural production, and involves a process of reintegration of former soldiers and farming families. (macauhub)
