Portugal steps up its promotional tourism campaign in China

Beijing, China, 22 Jun – Portugal will welcome a second group of Chinese tour operators in September, intensifying its promotional campaign in China, the Portuguese ambassador in China, Rui Quartin Santos announced in Beijing.

This is the second such mission in seven months and was announced at the 6th International Tourism Fair in Beijing, which closed on Saturday and was attended for the first time by the Portuguese Tourist Office.

China is already one of the world’s largest sources of tourists and in 2020, according to western estimates, over 100 million Chinese will be able to take holidays abroad.

For the Portuguese Government’s first promotional tourism event in Beijing, seven months ago, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Bernardo Trindade, said that around 50,000 Chinese tourists had already visited Portugal in 2007.

Last April, a group of Chinese tour operators visited Portugal for the first time, and a second similar visit is being organized for the end of the summer.

The Portuguese ambassador also announced that by the end of the year, the Portuguese Tourist office’s official website will be translated into Chinese.

Portugal’s attendance of Beijing fair was managed by the Portuguese Tourist Office, with the support of the local delegation from the foreign trade promotion agency, Aicep. (macauhub)
