Angolan government´s forecasts for economic growth differ from those of World Bank

23 June 2009

Luanda, Angola, 23 June – Angola’s Economy Minister, Manuel Nunes Júnior, Monday in Luanda re-stated that Angola´s economic growth in 2009 will be over 3 percent, thus contradicting the most recent figures from the World Bank.

According to the minister, the forecast for Angolan economic growth – over 3 percent – will also improve per capita income, as the Angolan population is expected to see growth of 3 percent.

Nunes Júnior re-stated the figures that the government has put forward since the beginning of the year when news agency Lusa questioned him about the figure of 1.9 percent negative growth this year put forward by the World Bank Monday in Washington.

In its “Global Development Finance 2009,” report the World Bank projected, as well as the contraction for this year, growth of 6.5 percent in 2010 and 10.7 percent in 2011. (macauhub)
