Benguela, Angola, 23 June – Laying asphalt on the 26.5 kilometres of road between the cities of Benguela and Lobito has been carried out on almost the entire stretch of road, according o a report from Angolan news agency Angop.
The contract was awarded in September, 2007 to Portuguese group, Mota-Engil and is worth around 30 million euros.
The agency said that the only section that has yet to be finished is the new bridge over the Catumbela river.
The Benguela-Lobito road has two lanes in each direction, 3.3 metres of slow lane, 3.2 metres of fast lane, a hard shoulder of 1.5 metres and inside shoulder of 0.5 metres with a crash barrier area of 0.6 metres, making up a total width of 17.6 metres.
The project includes reconstruction and widening of the road, improving its drainage system, its vertical and horizontal signage, as well as other accessory work. (macauhub)
