Mozambique will continue to sell electricity to Zimbabwe

8 July 2009

Maputo, Mozambique, 8 July – Mozambique will continue to sell electricity to Zimbabwe despite the country’s electricity distributor, Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) owing almost US$50 million, the Energy Minister said in Maputo.

“The government of Zimbabwe needs our support,” said Salvador Namburete, adding that efforts were being made by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to support Zimbabwe’s economic recovery.

“In the long term Zimbabwe will be able to pay the debt it owes to Mozambique,” the minister noted. (macauhub)
