Expansion of the Porto da Palmeira, on the island of Sal, to cost the government 50 million Euros

Espargos, Cape Verde, 27 July – The minister for Infrastructures, Transport and Telecommunications in Cape Verde, Manuel Inocêncio, revealed that the government is to invest 50 million Euros in the Porto da Palmeira, on the island of Sal.

The first phase of the modernization and expansion work, estimated at 19 million Euros, is being carried out by the Mota-Engil consortium and should be finished by July 2010.

Manuel Inocêncio said that the projects in the port sector have been designed to accommodate Cape Verde’s expected development over the next 20-25 years.

“We are carrying out our modernization program of Cape Verde’s entire port infrastructure. We started with Praia, now it’s the turn of Sal and we will continue with the all the other islands,” he said. (macauhub)
