Africa Yuxiao Mining Development plans to survey heavy minerals in Mozambique

18 August 2009

Maputo, Mozambique, 18 Aug – the Africa Yuxiao Mining Development Company plans to prospect and survey for ilmenite, titanium and zircon in the district of Inharrime, INhambane province in southern Mozambique, Macauhub has learned from the company.

The company, which is owned by Chinese group Jinan Yuxiao Group Co. and businessman Chuanyou Cong, with an 80 percent and 20 percent stakes, respectively, was registered in Mozambique in 2008 and is specifically focused on research and exploration of mining resources, including the industrial processing.

As well as the district of Moma, a coastal area of Nampula province, there are heavy minerals in other parts of Mozambique, particularly the district of Chibuto, with no commercial value however, which led to some investors, such as BHP Billiton, the company which owns Limpopo Corridor Sands, to abandon the area.

In Moma, specifically in Topuito, Ireland’s Kenmare Resources is mining the Namalope deposit, which contains 21 million tonnes of heavy mineral concentrates and has also identified another deposit with a potential of 140 million tonnes. (macauhub)
