Inland fish refrigeration unit opens in Negage, Angola

Uíge, Angola, 18 Aug – A refrigerated warehouse for inland fishing resources, with a capacity to store 1,000 tonnes of fish, was opened Saturday in Negage, 37 kilometres to the northeast of the Angolan city of Uíge, by the country’s Fisheries Minister, Salomão Xirimbimbi.

As well as the inauguration of the warehouse, the minister, who made a 72-hour visit to Uíge, met with players in the fisheries sector, assessed the sector’s operations in the region and handed over 80 canoes and equipment to preserve fish to the 582 associated fishermen in the province.

Xirimbimbi also said that 100 new vessels would be sent to Uíge for fishing in the province’s lakes and rivers.

Construction of the refrigerated warehouse cost US$5 million. (macauhub)
