European Union and WADB to fund road refurbishment in Guinea Bissau

Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 26 Aug – The European Union (EU) and the West African Development Bank (WADB) are to jointly finance the construction and refurbishment of some roads in Bissau and its outskirts, the director general for roads and bridges of Guinea Bissau said Monday.

Luís Miguel da Silva Malú said that the work aimed, fundamentally, to recover urban roads affected during the rainy season.

According to Silva Malú, the work, which is due to begin at the end of December or beginning of 2010 with an expected duration of 15 months, will include construction of an overpass on the main avenue of the Guinean capital, more specifically next to the Bandim market.

The director general of roads and bridges also said that another project underway in Guinea Bissau was the building of a weighing g station, with a view to inspecting cargo transported by heavy goods vehicles in the country.

Silva Malú also announced that a survey for the modernisation of the port of Farim, in the Oio region in northern Guinea Bissau was also underway. (macauhub)
