Luanda, Angola, 27 Aug – The governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo, announced Tuesday the launch, within the next six months, of an international tender for drawing up a municipal master plan for Luanda.
In statements to Angolan news agency Angop, the governor said that the plan was part of a document designated “Terms of Reference for drawing up Luanda’s Master Plan”, recently approved by the Permanent Committee of the Council of Ministers.
According to Francisca do Espírito Santo, the plan would set out, for the next 25 years, growth patterns, the restoration of run-down areas, expansion, as well as the town’s spatial distribution.
Asked about the number of houses to be built in Luanda as part of the government’s National Housing Programme, she said that the private initiative would take on responsibility for this and that the more were built the better, adding that there were several areas in the province earmarked for the construction of housing, particularly the towns of Kilamba Kiaxi, Viana, Cacuaco and Samba.
